Supporting the Vinalhaven Public Library.
The Friends of the Vinalhaven Public Library supports the library as a vital educational and cultural asset to the community by promoting public awareness and use of the library’s resources and by funding materials, services, and programs to supplement the town budget.
The Friends was formed in 1987 to support the mission of the Vinalhaven Public Library. A non-profit, 501(c)3 charitable organization, every year we raise supplemental funds for the library that promote literacy and community on the island.
The Friends assist the library by…
Promoting public awareness of the library and stimulating use of its resources and services
Buying books, magazines, and other media for the library’s collection
Buying special equipment and other tools to aid library patrons and staff
Paying the entire cost of Inter-Library Loan services
Supporting library staff
Providing grants to the library at the Vinalhaven School
Scheduling author visits, lectures, workshops, and other special events
Covering the costs of author visits, lectures, workshops, and other special events
Supporting special interest groups hosted at the library
Keeping the library well-maintained and hospitable, covering the costs of landscaping, deep cleaning, and holiday decorating
Maintaining an endowment fund for future needs of the library
Some of our recent accomplishments
“The Friends is an extraordinary group of community-minded people who love the library and want to make a difference.”
Joanne Brodt, Director of the Friends of the Vinalhaven Public Library
